The state of Colorado does not specifically license repo agents, however, the Colorado attorney general does require that all entities performing repossessions have a surety bond on file with their office. The Colorado attorney general actively pursues companies and individuals that are not in compliance. Colorado is a right to cure state that requires any lender initiating a repossession to send a "right to Cure" notice, informing the debtor that the lien holder intends to repossess the collateral if the loan is not paid up to date within 20 days. Though it's not required by law, it is best if the lien holder mail the right to cure notice by certified mail so that they can prove that the right to cure notice was mailed out. The Uniform Commercial code, the Federal law regulating repossession requires that the peace not be breached while performing any repo.

Repossession Recording: Must be recorded in the Colorado County Recorders office where buyer resides or where repo property is located. Uniform Commercial Code adopted July, 1966.

Repo Recovery: Peaceful repossession permitted in Colorado

Prior Notice: Debtor must be sent a Consumer's Right to Cure allowing debtor 20 days to bring account current before assigning to repossessor.

Repo Redemption: No redemption after repossession foreclosure.

Repo Deficiency: Repo Deficiencies are permitted and confession of judgment notes do not render the note illegal in Colorado.

Special Motor Vehicle Provisions: Liens on repo motor vehicles, in order to be effective as to third parties, must appear on repossessor title. This is in lieu of general repossession recording. Secretion or concealment of mortgaged property is a crime in Colorado.
