All repossessors in Hawaii are required to obtain a collection agent license from the Hawaii Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs. Hawaii does not require that the lien holder notify a debtor prior to repossessing any collateral in Hawaii. In other words Hawaii is not a "Right to Cure" state, If however the consumer signed their contract in a right to cure state then the lender is responsible to notify the debtor prior to repossession in accordance with the laws of the state where the contract was signed. The peace may not be breached during the repossession in accordance with article 9 of the Uniform Commercial code.

Hawaii has 7 islands that have people living on them: Oahu, Hawaii, Maui, Kauai, Molokai, Lanai and Niihau. Oahu, has the highest population and the state capitol, we perform repossessions here on a daily basis. Hawaii, the big island, we perform repos here on a every day. Maui is much less populated and we repo cars here about once or twice a week. Kauai also has a small population and we perform repossessions here on average twice a month. Molokai, Lanai and Niihau are all privately owned  islands repossessions are rarely done here. When they are a replevin order is required to recover any collateral on all three of these islands as they are all privately owned.

Skip tracing on any of the Hawaiian islands is different than skip tracing any where else in the United States. Historically databases that are reliable in the rest of the United States are very outdated and contain a large percentage of erroneous information. Cultivating relationships with law enforcement and community leaders are one of the most effective ways to locate individuals that are in hiding. Another good source of information from the community is going into the local barber shop, getting a haircut and ask them what they know about your skip. We have even sent our secretaries into beauty shops and located our skip from the information they gained while getting their hair cut. You have to work with what you've got!

Speedy Repo is also quite experienced at repossessing boats, personal watercraft and jet skis on all of the Hawaiian islands. Hawaii has a higher percentage of boats per capita than any other state. (Florida has more boats but a much larger population) We have well established relationships with most marina managers and harbor masters across Hawaii. Many marina managers will tell us if the collateral we are looking for is being stored in their marina or not. Odds are, if the debtor isn't paying the lender for their boat, they are also not paying the marina where it is being stored. Hawaii Repossession Recording: Repo Liens on motor vehicles recorded on Certificate of Ownership. Uniform Commercial Code adopted January, 1967 in Hawaii.

Repossession Recovery: Peaceful repossession permitted in Hawaii.

Repossession Redemption: If repo without notice to buyer, buyer has 10 days to redeem from repossessor in Hawaii.

Repossession Deficiency: Deficiency repo judgments permitted. Hawaii confession of repo judgment notes are valid only up to $1,000.00.

Special Repo Motor Vehicle Provisions: All transfers must be filed with the Hawaii County Treasurer as to repossession, seizures, imposition of a lien.

Repossessor Documents Required to Transfer Ownership of repo Motor Vehicle: If mainland license plates are on vehicle; Certificate of repo title in lien holder's name only and a Hawaii Notarized Bill of Sale.
